The thought of Blizzard doing that to the Diablo series downright terrifies me, It makes me think of a WoWish version of DiabloĪlso imagine how long it would take to make, that would be a lot of caves, mines and moreīlizzard couldn't even finish Starcraft Ghost, they no longer have the talent to pull off a Elder Scrolls like Diablo game, just look at what they have done to World of Warcraft, they Blizzard can't come up with new dungeon ideas so they just take dungeons/raids from Classic WoW and bump them up to whatever level cap the current expansion has

Overhead to me feels dated, ie they didn't have the technology at that point to do up close detail so by doing overhead, detail on a lot things can be kind of half assed.īut if we are on the subjects of overhead rpgs, Planescape Torment needs an overhaul, I have yet to play it, but can never stop hearing people sing its praises. I know its like a signature of the series now, but DIV could look amazing combining the Lore of Diablo with either the fps view of Skyrim or the over the shoulder view of Borne/souls. Personally I am tired of overhead, Diablo really needs to shift into an elder scroll fps view with Diablo IV. I can recommend the entire blog to anyone interested in game development as Swen Vincke (CEO of Larian), like Victor on here, has a refreshing level of transparency for the games industry. Even the very first Divinity was more of a Diablo lookalike because at the time publishers wanted devs to develop "something similar to Diablo".Įdit: very interesting blog post about the why of this Enhanced Edition: And from my understanding it's sort of the game they've always wanted to make ever since they started making games. Original Sin is actually the first game they made were they had final cut. That developer journal is the best part of Limited Edition content in my entire collection. Sort of like the Working Designs story time thread on here. There is a developer journal that comes with the Divinity Anthology () in which they describe some of the problems they've encountered during the years. Throughout the company's history they have had a lot of problems with publishers. Which was a better game, but obviously still completely different from the type of games they actually want to make. They then tried to rectify that by re-releasing the game as The Dragon Knight Saga, with the help of another publisher. But it seriously tarnished their reputation, and gave them sort of a "eurojank" label. So Ego Draconis was nowhere near what they wanted to bring to the market. In the end the publisher also forced them to release the game way too early.

Divinity II is what it is because Larian was not completely independent at the time, and they were forced by their publisher to create an action RPG.
